岐阜、福井、京都に隣接する滋賀県。県の中央には、日本最大の湖、琵琶湖がある。
琵琶湖周囲には、国宝・彦根城や長浜城、安土城跡、佐和山城跡、小谷城跡や古戦場も残る。
琵琶湖北西の湖上に立つ大鳥居が目印の白鬚神社は猿田彦命(さるたひこのみこと)を祭神とする延命長寿、長生きの神様として、開運、航海安全など近江最古の神社。
甲賀市は、陶磁器の信楽焼は日本六古窯の一つでたぬきの置物で知られる。

Shiga prefecture adjacent to Gifu, Fukui, kyoto.
In the center of the prefecture is Lake Biwa the largest lake in Japan.
National treasures Hikone castle, Nagahama castle, Azuchi castle ruins, Sawayama castle ruins, Odani castle ruins and old battle fields ramain around Lake Biwa.
Shirahige shrine which is marked by the large torii on the lake west of Lake Biwa is the oldest shrine in Omi. such as longevity with Sarutahikonomikoto as the enshrined deity good luck as a god of longevity , navigation safety.
In Koka city the ceramic Shigaraki ware is one of the six ancient kilns in Japan and is known fof its raccoon dog figurines.
Koka city is a ninja village along with Iga Mie prefecture.
Saimyo-ji temple, Kongorinji temple and Kudara temple, called Koto sanzan are famous places for autumn leaves.
There is Enryakuji temple on Mt.Hiei on the border with Kyoto prefecture.
In the gourmet there are Funazushi and Omi beef.
